AMAZON Coming to Southwest

By now, most people have heard that Amazon is interested in Southwest Philadelphia.  Well, apparently the rumors are true, as Amazon took its case to open a “Last Mile” facility on the former GE site at S.69th & Elmwood Avenue to the Civic Design Review Board (CDR)on March 2nd.  The project is still before the CDR, with the next meeting on April 6th   at 1:00pm.  The proposed 140,000 sq. ft. building would employ 300-500 full time employees (at a starting salary of $15.00) and another 150 Prime Delivery jobs.  Amazon hopes to break ground in April and be open this time next year.  Here is the link for the meeting:

“Amazon is in negotiations right now to obtain the site to open a new facility.  While nothing is finalized concerning this issue, I am excited about the opportunity of Amazon opening a facility in Southwest Philadelphia and the Second District.  The facility would mean hundreds of needed jobs in Philadelphia, the poorest big city in America.

“I want to hear directly from citizens about the proposed Amazon site.  The public can email comments to my Legislative Aide Frantz Pierre at frantz.pierre@phila.gov.  “The public can also send emails to my office at any time about any issue via my web submission form by going to   https://phlcouncil.com/kenyattajohnson/
