The Rotary Club of Southwest Philadelphia – Eastwick joined forces with The Book Ark Project to place a Book Ark (a mini, free library) at Myers Recreation Center at 58th and Kingsessing. The mission of the Rotary Club is to support Southwest Philadelphia by providing community service projects. The Book Ark Project’s mission is to increase access to books in underserved communities.

Sixty one percent of children in low income households have no books in their home, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. The Rotary Club wants to encourage all families to have books for their young children in their homes. Families can borrow a couple of books at a time and when they’re done with them, they can bring them back and then get more books. It’s free and open 24/7.

The Rotary Club is a group of volunteers who meet each Wednesday morning to learn more about the community and to give back to Southwest Philadelphia. To learn more about the Rotary Club of Southwest Philadelphia, visit their website at http://www.rotaryclubofsouthwestphiladelphia.com/
