Cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses are claiming the lives of our residents at alarming rates. Too many people are dying before their time. Young people are suffering at alarming rates of obesity which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. The vast majority of the illnesses affecting members of our community are preventable.
On Wednesday, May 8th the Hooked on Health Community Coalition held its first planning meeting at the offices of the Southwest CDC in Southwest Philadelphia. The Hooked on Health Community Coalition is a coalition of Philadelphia community-based organizations, faith-based organizations and community activist serving the residents of Southwest Philly. The mission of the coalition is to increase public awareness of the importance of one’s health. The coalition encourages individuals and families to be proactive in terms of health education and personal health management.
On Wednesday, May 8th the Hooked on Health Community Coalition held its first planning meeting at the offices of the Southwest CDC in Southwest Philadelphia. The coalition consists of some 30 or more community activist, community-based organizations, faith-based leaders and services providers. The group is planning a special health awareness event scheduled for August 31, 2019, at the Historic Bertram’s Garden in Southwest Philadelphia.
