State Rep. Joanna McClinton today announced a $250,000 grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to help provide needed updates and create a safer environment at the Cobbs Creek playground. The play area is a welcome space for residents of all ages during daylight hours but has needed improved lighting and cameras to make it safe during the evenings.

McClinton said. “This funding will help build on the strong foundation by creating a safer recreational environment that everyone can enjoy, day or evening, in the years to come.”

The city also plans to install new play and exercise equipment, as well as develop a new nature play space in the park’s surrounding wooded area.

The playground is located next to the Cobb Creek Recreation Center where Spruce Street and Marshall Road meet Cobbs Creek Parkway.

The CFA is an independent agency of the State Department of Community and Economic Development.
