Contact with our U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon – 3rd Thursdays
Want to know more about Social Services Benefits or other matters having to do with U.S. Federal programs? A contact person for U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon will be available to answer questions and go over national programs every 3rd Thursday at the (air-conditioned) offices of Southwest CDC at 6328 Paschall Avenue from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Last week we found the quiet, competent Therese McDonald, Constituent Services Manager for Rep. Scanlon ready and able to handle a broad range of questions about Social Security benefits.
Ms. McDonald works out of Rep. Scanlon’s office at 927 East Baltimore Avenue in East Lansdowne. “Since it may not be that convenient for Southwest residents to get out there, I or another one of our constituent services team will be at Southwest CDC monthly on the third Thursday,” she indicated. “Sadly, many people have pressing Social Security questions that don’t get resolved promptly – often a year or more! Representative Scanlon wants to make sure that her Southwest constituents – residents and businesses – have opportunities to have their problems addressed.”
For Southwest residents, this kind of service is particularly attractive ever since the popular SSA office in the Woodland Avenue Plaza closed and people have to travel down to 1500 J.F.Kennedy Blvd. for help.
McDonald was born and raised in Chester, PA and is very familiar with the challenges of growing up and living in an urban area. “Our goal is to be accessible to all of our constituent communities,” she assured us. McDonald also noted that Representative Scanlon also wants to be an advocate in Congress on Social Security policy, since she is a member of the U.S. House Majority Leader’s Poverty Task Force.
For a schedule of when Ms. McDonald will be present at Southwest CDC, phone 215-729-0800 or email mark@southwestcdc.org.
Ms. McDonald can also be contacted directly through Rep. Scanlon’s office at 610-626-1913 or 610-626-2020.
