Reception Held for Councilwoman Blackwell

More than 40 people attended a reception to honor Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell on September 22nd to thank her for her dedication and support of Bartram’s Garden over the years.

“We thank you Councilwoman Blackwell for being a champion for the Garden over the last couple of decades,” said Maitreyi Roy, executive director of Bartram’s Garden. 

A student at Richard Allen Prep sang her a song and another student read her a poem.  

Donna Henry, executive director of Southwest CDC thanked the Councilwoman for her “support for housing and housing-related issues over the last two decades.” 

There were representatives from Woodland Academy Child Development Center, Richard Allen Preparatory Charter School, and Greater Philadelphia Health Action present at the event, as well as Bartram’s Gardens board members and staff.  

Councilwoman Blackwell will be stepping down as the councilperson of the 3rd District in January, after losing the Democratic primary on May 21st.  She took office in 1992 and will have served 28 years as a Councilwoman.
