The pride of the Rotary Club of Southwest Philadelphia-Eastwick is their Thanksgiving projects.  On Monday, November 23rd, they prepared and donated 30 Thanksgiving baskets to families in need of food with the help of the Rotary Club of Bala Cynwyd.

On Thanksgiving morning, they will distribute 200 prepared meals to seniors throughout Southwest who will be home with no one to cook a special meal for them.  Summerwood Corporation donates and prepares the food.

This is a project that grew out of delivering Thanksgiving meals for the now defunct Philadelphia chapter of Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) when the late Louis Jackson owned and operated the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Island Avenue in the mid-1990’s.  Lou decided that the need was greater than what LBFE could provide.  So the next year 25 meals were cooked, packaged and delivered.  Summerwood Corporation took over the project when Lou sold the restaurant.  The amount of meals increased to 350 before the pandemic.

The amount of meals has been scaled back this year due to the logistics of accommodating changes related to the pandemic.
