About 25 southwest residents recently gave up three afternoons in October to attend Jumpstart Southwest, a unique real estate training program offered by Southwest CDC. Developed in Germantown by real estate developer Ken Weinstein, the program offers 9 hours of instructional training and mentoring, plus Jumpstart graduates have access to a special loan program to help to complete their projects. Participants are also automatically entered into a lottery to win a PHA house, the result of an innovative partnership between Jumpstart Germantown and the Housing Authority. Interestingly, the one person who has won a house since the start of the program was a graduate of Jumpstart Southwest. The next lottery will be held on October 29th.
The class is very lively, and there is a lot of back and forth between the students and the instructors. According to Antoinette Giles, “The class was educational and very informative. It has helped me to be more forward-thinking with my own project.” Patricia Miller added, “Motivation is the key to jumpstart success in life, and this program is a great motivator”.
