The Southwest Senior Center at 6916 Elmwood Avenue has been making life more enjoyable and fulfilling to age-advantaged residents of Southwest for many years – cultural and entertainment programs, fitness center activities, luncheons, and just a pleasant, welcoming environment.
“During the current Covid-19 crisis, however, we are making a special effort to sustain the health and wellbeing of our members and friends,” advised director Paulette Cunningham. “Each week the staff, mostly working safely from their own homes, are making over 500 phone calls to check on the health, wellbeing and any special needs of our fellow seniors.”
Cunningham also detailed the present effort to provide frozen meals to members each weekday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. “Seniors can pick up these meals on a “Grab and Go” basis.” This service is offered to members, and to other seniors which should call in advance to participate. The number to call is 215-937-1880.
The City-also recommends that persons over the age of 50 who are displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19 coronavirus should try to be tested for the virus. Those who meet these criteria and want a test can call (267) 491-5870 to obtain a referral.
Southwest Senior Center is supported by Philadelphia Corporation for Aging which operates a grocery help line at 215-765-9040.
