On June 25, 2019, the Boards of Directors of theVillage and Silver Springs – Martin Luther School, following an extensive exploratory process, voted in favor of uniting to operate as one single organization serving children, families and communities in the Philadelphia region. The decision to merge was made with careful consideration and great respect for the long histories and shared values of both organizations, including theVillage’s commitment to the Southwest Philadelphia community, which it has served for more than 50 years.
TheVillage and Silver Springs are two nonprofit organizations with a shared mission and vision: to inspire hope and promote healing through specialized support and education for children, families, and communities facing emotional and behavioral difficulties as well as the effects of trauma. This merger will enable the organization to continue its vital work well into the future and will expand its mission and continuum of care.
The combined entity will continue to offer all programs and services at all existing sites, and the hundreds of employees on whose dedication they rely will become a united team. Most importantly, the new organization, inspired by the long legacies and faith-based histories of theVillage and Silver Springs, will continue to promote hope and healing.
This process will be complete once a request to merge is filed with and accepted by the state of Pennsylvania. In addition, a new name and brand identity will be announced during the Fall 2019. Until then, the organizations will continue to operate under their existing names.
