In the wake of the Covid-19 crisis Southwest CDC was able to continue operation without laying-off any staff. Southwest CDC began early on thinking of ways to continue after school programming to support our families who are in need. We have collected email addresses for over half of the parents in our program. We are currently working on getting email addresses from the remaining parents/ guardians in order to provide virtual/online support for the participants in our after school program which will begin May 4th; this online support will include: homework assistance, fun facts about prevention, positive action, literacy activities, stem lessons, other structured activities and most important and opportunity to potentially socialize with staff and students in the after school program.
Staff has assisted several parents with the Chrome books, by finding out the required information from Patterson and the school district about the process of picking up Chrome books.
In addition staff is completing professional development training, creating lesson plans, communicating with parents/ guardians, and or participants to provide resources which can be used at this time, and just to let families know we are still here to support them.
Our parents and students have been truly happy and grateful to hear from us and for the information and resources we have provided them with throughout this trying time.
