Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Art Education Afterschool Program Brings New Murals to Philadelphia Schools

Following an EPA grant award received by the School District of Philadelphia for electric buses, two schools—Robert E. Lamberton and Avery D. Harrington, were selected for mural projects to highlight the positive environmental impact of the buses. Each project involves the creation of two murals and an educational campaign centered around the themes of school bus electrification, environmental justice, and community health. The overarching goal is to foster understanding and support for the transition to electric buses and to advance broader objectives related to environmental health and justice within the local area.

At Avery D. Harrington, students from Mural Arts’s afterschool program, worked with artists Jenna Robb and Jason Killinger. During each visit, the students learned about creating a better future for our environment and helped shape the mural design. The broader school community had a chance to help paint the mural during a paint day on June 5th[1] . The project will begin installing over the summer and a mural dedication will be scheduled for September.
